KNITTED BABY BLANKET
The blog comes out of its summer sleep! Unfortunately, he was not just on vacation because of holidays, but mostly because of the lack of time to give. But we miss it! Especially since the blog has passed the mark of 2 years in silence ... yes, already! So thanks to all (and I'm sure men are hiding here) to follow us🙂
Let's start the school year with a knitting project! I'm lucky to have friends who make babies, so I have a lot of excuses to knit and test different things. Test is the right word for the cover made for the most beautiful Lily <3
When my friends announced to me that they were waiting for a happy event, I knew that I wanted to offer them a nice cover.
I had a gift for the book "knitting 300 points" and I really wanted to test several points. So I chose to make a "patchwork knit" blanket.
I knitted 16 squares of 20x20cm in 4 different colors in Nepal of Drops. I am absolutely a fan of this wool, the colors are very beautiful, it is very nice to knit and I like the composition wool / alpaca (I flee the acrylic like the plague).
The rendering will not please everyone because it's a little messy, but it represents me well.
Once all the squares finished, I assembled them. To hide the unsightly back and the edges not jojos, I sewed a cotton lining. So, we will not look in detail, because it's not very regular, but it's really not easy to do something nickel. I sewed by hand in invisible stitch, that at least it is not too badly done 😉
I thank my friends who never look at the finishes sometimes a little doubtful and are filled by my gifts.
The next gifts of birth: a girly vest for my colleague's daughter, and a sailor sweater for another colleague's son.
I also have to make the seams of my kalblé that I finished more than 2 weeks ago, and bring in the last threads of another knitted vest during my vacation. I show you all this soon!
LINEN BABY PATCHWORK BLANKET
As I told you about my article about Christmas trees , I intend to give my little cousin Leenaë an easy-to-make patchwork blanket .
The idea came to me thanks to my friend Claire who had herself made a patchwork blanket for her little niece and thanks to Bab's blog .
Attracted by so many pretty colors , I decided to start. I said that I had never realized anything in patchwork before and that I am a novice at the level of sewing . This article is therefore dedicated to all those who say to themselves: " I am a beginner in sewing but I still want to try patchwork plaid"!!! ;)
Step 1 - The fabric.
Aided by my friend Claire, I went to the fabric store to choose my coupons .
I did not choose the special patchwork fabric (although it is true that there are many choices) because it is not very wide (about fifty centimeters) and costs more than 5/6 euros per meter. I chose from the normal fabric roll (often 1m40 wide) taking the minimum length of cut (in tissue stores where I go is 20cm) . So, for an equivalent length, it comes back to me cheaper ! For a first try, I preferred to be reasonable!
I chosenot stretchy fabric , rather cotton by the way, making sure that they have about the same thickness . It will make my job easier .
In terms of colors, I chose the most exciting without paying attention to the fact that they marry each other or not. It's adventure !!!

Oh, the pretty fabrics that are here!
Step 2 - The squares.
Being a novice, I have not made an investment other than the fabric for this blanket patchwork (you never know, if I can not, if it is the first and the last time that I do the patchwork ...) . So, draw the squares and cut by hand! Yippee! It's a little LOOONNG !
But before that, you need to know the size of your squares and the number. It depends on the result you want to make with your patchwork and the size of your cover.
I wanted 8x8cm squares on the patchwork so for cutting squares we add 2cm to leave 1 cm each side for sewing. So I cut squares of 10x10cm.
For the length I planned about 1 meter on 1 meter30, which represents 12 squares (96cm) on 16 squares (128cm) with a frame of a single color of about 15 / 20cm. But I will ask the question later, let's first see the patchwork!

Cutting by hand is looooonnng!
Step 3 - The arrangement of squares.
Now that the 192 small squares are all cut (FINALLY!), We will have to organize them ! I put them all on the floor to try to arrange them correctly.
The first solution I found seemed a little messy:

What do you think of this combination?
So I thought a bit and decided to organize the version has r c - e n - c i e s . The result suits me much more!

Oh! A rainbow! It's like "my little pony"!
Step 4 - Sewing the 192 small squares.
that's it! I have defined my sewing plan!
In order not to lose it by mixing the squares, I stacked the squares of each line on each other respecting the same order that will also be my order to sew them . Then I stacked the column separating each pile by a small paper (each his technique! ^^) .
After having ironed them, place at the seam! We first sew each line independently of each other and then flatten the seams to the darkest fabric (thank you iron!) .
Then we can assemble the lines between them. To avoid having small gaps between your squares, the trick is to combine the seams of the two bands by fixing them with pins.
What a joy when it's over !! =)

It's beautiful, my darling!
Step 5 - Laying the frame.
The assembly of the frame was the tip of the iceberg! This beautiful grid is only a small part and the patchwork blanket is not finished yet!
So I went back to the fabric store to find the color that goes well for the ride and for the underside. It will be pink hearts on the top and purple flowers below!

I find this beautiful fabric !!
(not ironed, we close our eyes on this small detail!)
When I saw it, I knew it was him!
What do you think?
The result I like very much! = D
Step 6 - Assembly of the three parts.
This is where I really went galley!
As I said at the beginning of this article, I am a novice in sewing and this is my first patchwork . I did not really know how to put together my patchwork (beginning), my polar fabric (middle) and my purple flower fabric (below).
I had trouble finding explanations on the blog s , so I looked video . By looking at it, I ended up getting an idea of the " how to ".
So that's what I understood:
First, find a large flat space to spread your book (a large table or even the floor).
Then, lay out your different layers in the direction you want, making sure they do not crease . that's balèze! Especially for the one below!
NB : A seamstress gives the trick to fix it taut at the table with the help of large pliers (style painter's pliers) . You then spread your two other layers more easily on it.
Then, after making sure there are no creases, put safety pins on your entire work by squatting regularly .
NB : The goal is to join the three parties together. So you need a lot of pins , especially if your patchwork blanket is great!
Finally, you will be able to do what is called, I believe, quilting or quilting ( starting with the English word) starting with the middle of your plaid.
FYI : I wondered if it really needed a special foot for the machine. For everything that is arabesques, tracery, and various curved shapes, it is better because, otherwise, for each turn, you will have to lift the foot, turn the fabric, rest the foot ... with a result not necessarily as pretty and a lot of time spent. For straight lines, you can also use a special foot, but I do not have one and it worked well.
I wanted to make it simple and I sewed at the seams of each line . I love the result!
Here is the underside of the patchwork blanket : the purple flower! This one is very pretty, do not you think?

I'm in love with this fabric! I almost want to keep it for myself!
After having secured the patchwork part of my cover, I went to the quiltage of the frame . I first cut the polar at the desired distance, then I folded the frame (the pink part) that I stitched to the edge as in the next picture.

I am a fan of these fabrics! ♥
Once this work was done, I bent the purple part to a good extent (the end inwards) and I sewed the two parts together. So that the ride is solid and solid, I made a seam every 1 cm on the frame.
And here is the result! = D

Miss cat loves a lot but it's not for her!
And you? What do you think?
Conclusion:
This is my first job of this importance in sewing! I have not bad galley but I am very happy with the result! I hope Leenäe will be too!
If other beginners read my article, I hope he could help you! I put all the difficulties I encountered.
If you have any advice to give me, do not hesitate, I'm interested! I really want to improve myself !!! Thank you in advance!
